About SHAMELESS (UK) & Episode Guides

Shameless (UK) Premiered on Channel 4 on January 26, 2004

About the Show:
Blisteringly funny, offbeat drama following the rollercoaster lives and loves of an anarchic family from Manchester. Meet the Gallaghers. Mum went AWOL years ago, Dad stayed at home with the six children only to hit the bottle. And sometimes the kids... The real head of the family is big sister Fiona (20), who looks after Carl (11), Debbie (9) and baby Liam (3). She is occasionally helped, more often hindered, by reluctant virgin 'Lip' (16) and the actively gay, but very private, Ian (15).

Welcome to a hectic world of sexual adventures, triumphs, love, scams and a fair bit of crime on a rough Manchester housing estate, where wheel-less cars are the norm and the moving ones are stolen.

Episode 1:
Frank sets fire to his dinner and ends up in hospital. Unable to reach Sheila, the hospital contact his other wife Monica who rushes to be by Frank's side.

She turns up later at Lip's surprise birthday party and receives a frosty reception from Debbie. Debbie refuses to forgive Monica for abandoning the family six years ago but Monica is undeterred and announces that she is back for good.

Debbie contacts Norma and begs her to come and get Monica back as her mother has set her sights on seducing Frank. Norma decides to camp in the Gallagher's back garden, convinced that Monica will eventually change her mind.

Meanwhile, Kev, Veronica and Marty have gone missing. Everyone is shocked when Kev and Veronica appear on the news, arrested for attempting to buy a baby in Romania. Everyone except the Maguires who throw out all of Kev and Veronica's belongings and move into their house!

Marty then turns up with the stolen Romanian baby and is immediately arrested. Thankfully Sue convinces the police officers that the baby is hers and he is released.

Episode 2:
Frank struggles to stop Monica telling Sheila that they're still married, but when Monica comes on strong, can he resist her advances?

Jamie Maguire is released from prison after doing 10 years for murder. Much to the disappointment of the Maguires, Jamie returns a reformed man.

He refuses to get involved with any of their dodgy dealings and gets a job behind the bar of The Jockey instead. He soon moves out of their house and rents a room above the pub.

Sheila tries to seduce Monica to find out if she is actually a lesbian. Monica rejects her advances and they both end up sharing a police cell. In desperation, Sheila tries to help Norma win Monica back but Monica is still too busy chasing after Frank to notice.

Episode 3:
Frank finally succumbs to Monica's advances and they begin an affair. Sheila arranges an anniversary party but soon finds out about Frank's infidelity. She is unable to control her rage and ends up throwing knives that narrowly miss Frank's head.

Meanwhile, Lip and Ian decide to earn cash by selling all the junk they find around the estate which goes well until they find a severed hand in a pile of rubbish.

They discover that the hand belongs to a member of the Maguire family. The Maguires assume that it is Mickey that has been killed and begin to mourn his loss. However, after Mickey arrives home, they realise that it was in fact Fergal who was murdered.

When Frank disappears, Sheila worries that she may have killed him and buried him under the patio alongside her ex-husband. When she finds him alive and well in the pub, she gives him an ultimatum; he must choose between her and Monica.

Frank rushes back to Shelia to declare that she is the woman he wants to be with. Sheila is thrilled but Frank ruins it when he lets on that he never bothered to divorce Monica. Sheila is devastated and leaves him, taking the twins with her.

After being left in the lurch, Frank runs over to Monica to repeat exactly what he said to Sheila. This time all goes smoothly and the Gallagher family is reunited once again.

Episode 4:
Ian receives a letter informing him that he no longer has a job at the Kash and Carry due to financial pressures.

Ian then knocks over a woman on a motorbike who happens to be in possession of scratch cards stolen from the Maguires. She begs Ian to let her stay at his house. Ian begins an unlikely affair with the runaway girl who he hides in the attic.

Yvonne finds out that Kash is in serious debt and that he wants to take a loan out on her shop. She refuses to allow it and forces him to forge a suicide note and fake his death.

Meanwhile, Mimi stops speaking when she finds out her brother has died and that the severed hand is Fergal's. Paddy tries to force Liam to propose to Mandy to replace Mimi's loss with a new 'son' but finds out Ian is involved with the stolen scratch cards.

They want Lip to hand over the girl but Ian helps her escape and the feud between the Gallaghers and Maguires seems to be at its worst until suddenly Mimi speaks again, and all is forgotten.

Episode 5:
Frank is forced to move back in with his family when he finds out Sheila is planning to sell her house. Tensions rise when Monica objects to Debbie receiving all of Frank's attention and tells her she should be dating boys like all the other girls her age.

So Debbie goes out with her new neighbour until Frank tries to end the relationship when he hears his family are strict Catholics.

Love is in the air as Mickey Maguire makes a move on Ian, who seems happy with his advances. When he finds out Mickey taught his dog to perform a sexual act on him, he soon backs off.

Episode 6:
Carrie, the new local and over-zealous copper, is desperate to arrest the Gallaghers so the crime on the estate will go down. The other coppers are too besotted by her to report her for unprofessional conduct and, at times, violent behaviour.

Carl prepares a birthday meal for Monica only to find her in a compromising position with Norma. Things look bad for Frank until Shane offers him a job selling ecstasy tablets from an ice cream van.

Karen is increasingly upset about how controlling the Maguires are and snaps when Mimi gives her a bib adorned with a baby girl's name that Mimi has already chosen.

Karen gives Jamie her engagement ring back and calls the wedding off. When the Maguires find out, they kidnapp Karen and tie her to a chair until she is prepared to change her mind.

In true romantic fashion, Jamie rescues her and declares he is willing to become estranged from his family if she takes him back. She does and all ends well.

Episode 7:
Frank blurts out that he had originally chosen Sheila before having to pick Monica. Monica admits that she is still sleeping with Norma.

When Frank finds out that Norma has loads of cash, he sneaks into her camper van to steal her money. She wakes up just as he is reaching for the cash strapped to her thigh and assumes he is attempting to rape her. She immediatly reports him to the police.

Norma plans to take Frank to court but offers to drop the charges if Frank accepts some money to disappear. Frank reluctantly agrees until Monica uses her means of persuasion to make Norma drop the charges.

Yvonne is running an illegal call centre in the back of her shop and asks Lip to help her fix the computers. He meets Nadia and begins to flirt with her until Ian tells her Nadia is actually a man. Lip is visibly disgusted and his reaction offends Ian who only forgives Lip after he agrees to accompany him to a gay bar.

In another typically quiet day in Chatsworth, an explosion confuses everyone as to who might have caused it. The situation is quickly resolved when Paddy admits he is missing the semtex he was hiding for his 'cousins.

Episode 8:
Carl helps Norma devise a plan to win Monica back. She pretends that she is going to leave for Texas for good. She revamps her camper van and on realising how much money she has spent, a mercinary Monica plans to go with her.

However, Carl slips the money he saved into Frank's pocket and when Monica sees Frank going through his new found wad of cash, she decides to stay with the Gallaghers.

Paddy suspects that Jamie may be behind the deaths of his ex cell mates and asks Karen what really happened on their weekends away. Karen is unaware of the situation but overhears Jamie admitting to Paddy that he killed them to avenge Feargal's death. Karen thinks that Jamie only agreed to marry her for an alibi.

Jamie makes a tape of himself confessing to the crimes and Mimi tracks Karen down and shows her the video. She gives Karen the confessional tape and tells her to keep it. Karen realises how much she means to Jamie and runs to make it to her wedding.
