Christopher Eccleston stars in the opening episode of Accused – six new dramas from Jimmy McGovern about crime and punishment, made by RSJ Films for prime-time BBC One.
These unflinching contemporary stories from Jimmy McGovern boast stellar casts comprising: Mackenzie Crook, Juliet Stevenson, Peter Capaldi, Andy Serkis, Marc Warren, Naomie Harris, Warren Brown and, in his first leading role, Ben Smith.
Each story is about an ordinary person who ends up in the dock. But should these men and women be there? Are they innocent or guilty or somewhere in-between? As each hour long episode unravels we see how these people became the accused and finally whether they walk free or go down...
Christopher Eccleston stars as a decent man in turmoil; Mackenzie Crook stars as a Corporal Buckley in the story of two friends played by newcomers Ben Smith and Ben Batt who join the British army and discover not obeying orders has deadly consequences in episode two.
Juliet Stevenson and Peter Capaldi star in the third episode a heart-rending tale about parents whose son is fatally injured at work and in the episode four Andy Serkis stars as a cab driver who is desperate to escape the drudgery of his life.
Marc Warren plays a father who acts against his better judgment in episode five and Naomie Harris and Warren Brown play parents whose fall out leads to foul play in the sixth and final episode.
Jimmy McGovern says: "In the time it takes to climb the steps of the court we tell the story of how the accused came to be there. We see the crime and we see the punishment.Nothing else.
"No police procedure, thanks very much, no coppers striding along corridors with coats flapping. Just crime and punishment – the two things that matter most in any crime drama. "

Who would of thought a desperate call of nature would change their lives like that, the buckets of shit thrown over him was disgusting but Buckley was a nasty piece of work driving Peter to suicide, it's a shame he didn't kill Buckley first but Peter's father not believing the cover story was interesting and Frankie killing Buckley was great and explained the trial but 25 years for killing a bully was sad Author: codebreaker Time: 8-18-2012 16:51

Helen telling the jury of the tragic story that led her committing the crime was interesting but at first I thought the way Rob ignored the forklift training it was partly his own fault but the factory's cover up was diabolical and I'm not surprised Helen did what she did for the death of her son but was surprised at the not guilty verdict Author: codebreaker Time: 8-19-2012 03:03

I must admit I don't know what I would of done in Kenny's situation after his daughter came home and said she was molested in the park by a guy in blue shorts but after giving him a guy in blue shorts a kicking he dies in hospital not knowing if he was the right guy, finding out he was the wrong guy after another girl was attack was sad but after the communion I had a feeling it was his friend Gordon did the molestation, Kenny carrying the can for the death was sad but predictable and Gordon gets away with applying the fatal blow and probable the molestation of the two girls Author: codebreaker Time: 8-19-2012 08:11

Alison was lucky she went for a drink before catching her train but going back home not knowing about the accident and then lying about catching the next one when it was obvious after the accident the line was closed, David rapping her and then having the boyfriend beaten up was bad enough but planting drugs in her car so he can get custody of the children was a surprise but her being found not guilty and David and his father being arrested was great Author: codebreaker Time: 8-19-2012 09:38

Tracie going to see Tony's wife, Karen after he told him she was dead was interesting as she has no idea her husband is seeing Tracie but Tony not recognising Simon in the street was amusing considering they had slept together, Tony killing his wife was a surprise and trying to implicate Tracie as his accomplice was cruel Author: codebreaker Time: 8-19-2012 10:52

Mo taking a stand against the drug gangs was brave but finding out after Sean's murder that it was her son Jake that killed him was a surprise and Mo doing the press conference was a step to far, Mo and her mother were lucky to get a suspended sentence and 12 years for Jake because of his age was terrible

Peter who is attempting to help his sons Stephen and Dom face the imminent death of their beloved mother was sad for all three of them but Stephen's reaction to everyone's condolences was not what I expected and listening to their dad make out with the palliative care nurse Charlotte so soon after their mother death would make you angry but it becoming obvious there was something medically wrong with him and refusing help cost him six years which was tragic but the end had a interesting twist Author: codebreaker Time: 9-12-2012 07:00

Tina accompanying the new inmate, Stephen Cartwright, from the last episode into the young offender’s institution was interesting considering she senses that something isn't right with him but killing himself after she warned Frank who was another officer was sad and to make things worse his dad was there to see him and had no idea of what's just happened, Frank expecting her to lie under oath was predictable but Frank's threat to not watch her back and allowing a prisoner to rape was diabolical and not reporting it was a surprise, a suspended sentence for letting a prisoner go free was great and Frank getting away scot free is sickening
