Call The Midwife Premiered on BBC One on January 15, 2012



Call The Midwife is a drama series adapted for television by Heidi Thomas from Jennifer Worth's best selling memoir, book of the same name. The series is a colourful look at the world of midwifery and family life in 1950's East End London. Jenny joins an eccentric community of nursing nuns having just qualified.

Jenny's first call was amusing considering the mother was Spanish and didn't speak English so asking one of her daughters about her last period was embarrassing but the husband saying it's been 11 years was incredible because she's had one after another with a few twins in between totaling 24 children and them both surviving the premature birth was incredible

Jenny running into Mary was interesting and seeing the unfamiliar side of life following her encounter with the runaway was a bit of an eye opener and the new girl Chummy learning to ride a bike was amusing but the way she delivered the breach birth was incredible

Jenny being put on the district nursing roster for a few weeks was different and looking after Joe, the old soldier with awful leg ulcers was disgusting to start with but taking him to the reunion was beyond the call of duty and very nice of her but tragic that he lost his legs and died shortly afterwards and as this is set in the 1950's no wonder she didn't want to give birth to a black baby but the doctor telling the husband the good news i thought was crazy as he isn't the father and his reaction was amazingly good

The girls trying to listen to Jenny's phone call was amusing and how tragic that Margaret lost the baby and fighting a death sentence herself because she had eclampsia but the baby girl being snatched from her pram was sad but leaving her outside was asking for trouble and asking the mother to go easy on the girl who took her baby was asking a lot

Peggy's brother, Frank, being diagnosed with cancer was sad but their relationship was strange and Jenny offering him the care that he needs was nice but leaving the morphine behind was a accident but a blessing in disguise when Peggy decided to join him when he died and what a place to deliver the baby when the smell of fish makes you sick

Sister Monica Joan refusing to take Penicillin because Nostradamus hadn't foreseen it was amusing but also being caught steeling and then returned to Nonnatus House by the local police was interesting but Jenny getting in trouble for trying to protect her was predictable, poor Cathy having triplets at such a young age and all boys as well and ending with Chummy's wedding was nice

Having to give birth it the toilet with the neighbours watching was a little bizarre and Mrs Jenkins was bound to be an awkward patient but her strong right hook was amusing, Jenny Lee ending up getting caught up in the mystery that surrounded her was nice, the young girl knowing what to do after giving birth was a surprise and abandoning the baby with the nun's was predictable but being reunited at the end was great

I thought Chummy had taken too much gas when she was demonstrating it but it's a good job the doctor had it in his car as the patient was one hell of a screamer and Jenny standing up to the abusive husband was brave but no surprise the both end up in prison for neglect, going aboard a Swedish cargo ship to deliver the captain’s daughter's baby was interesting as her father was using her like a hooker for the sailors which was diabolical

That was tragic when the Kelly family's new-born son, Thomas died in what looked like cot death and sad to think Cynthia came under intense pressure from the police, Chummy leaving to work as a missionary was brave

Jenny going to cover at a short-staffed London Hospital was an eye opener and finding herself working under the intimidating surgeon was unfortunate but his arrogance almost costing Jimmy his life was diabolical, the twin was lucky not to died thanks to her sisters interference but having twins was ironic

How tragic that Ruby gave birth to a long awaited boy only for him to be born with spina bifida and Jenny letting her emotions get the better of her didn't help but the husband threatening to take him to the home was a gamble that paid as that was the first time she held him

I wondered when Jenny meet Nora Harding why she was upset at being 17 weeks pregnant but finding out she paid to get rid of it made sense and you can understand why she attacked the woman she paid, having eight kids already and another on the way would be hard and risking a back street abortion was sad

Jenny discovering her dying patients daughter is eight months pregnant but was hiding it with a corset was interesting as she was the only survivor out of seven siblings but her father dying just after he held his grandson was sad and Sister Bernadette was lucky she had an xray to encourage the young girl as it discovered she needed treatment

I guess with Sister Bernadette in the sanitorium there will bo no more examining her conscience over the Doctor.  I have wondered what would happen were they wanting to persue things would she be persuaded not to break her vows or encouraged at a chance of happiness?

The looks the typing pool girls were giving Julia as she walked in pregnancy bump proudly before her to give in her resignation.  It reminded me of those 'diet coke' ads where the girls moon over the hot guy lol

Jenny's sense of hummer is great saying they will need a post mortem to see if the neighbour has a heart of gold and I'm glad Monique was OK after being subjected to racial prejudice from her neighbours

Sister Bernadette looked so different out of her nuns habit but nice that the doctor went out to find her and the proposal was a nice touch, Fred's having to look after his pregnant daughter Dolly's son was amusing and glad Chummy was OK after that scare

Noticed Call the Midwife not on viptv.net yet. any idea if and when if will be available. If not where I can view full episodes? Live in Canada cannot watch BBC One online.

You will need to either find a source yourself or request anyone that might know where to watch it online to send you a PM because it is against forum policy to post unsupported links.  You might be able to find it on Netflix Canada, but I don't currently have that, so cannot be sure.  That isn't a free site, but they do offer a 7 day free trial.  Any free sites or downloading sites would have to be sent to you via PM because we can't verify the safety of them as re: malware, etc.

What a time to be evacuate when a unexploded bomb had been uncovered nearby and after Alan freaked out with the ball coming through the window it was obvious he was suffering from PTSD but helping his wife through the birth helped him, Dr Turner's son getting Polio was sad but being able to attend the wedding was great and the bomb disposal guy was lucky to get out alive after dropping the detonator

Trixie being upset after Jenny is promoted to the new Acting Sister was interesting but the mother-to-be revealing that the baby she is carrying is not her husbands did make things a little awkward especially as the other guy was black and going into labour early and giving birth to a girl was the icing on the cake as she has boys but the husband threatening to get rid of the baby they had to take her to keep her safe

You can understand the pregnant prisoners not having special treatment but you have to feel sorry for Stella at the prospects of loosing her first child for her first criminal offence but Sister Julienne saving the day was great

You have to feel for the young mother who left the clinic early as she had to also look after her mother who hasn't been outside for years and Alec wanting Jenny to accompany her to Brighton for the weekend sounded nice until he fell after they argued and loosing his foot was a surprise but I cant believe he died after he was making plans for their trip to Brighton

If treading in dog mess wasn't bad enough but having that smell on your shoes while at the diner table would be enough to put anyone off and Sally who has down’s syndrome being pregnant was interesting as back in those days they thought she had been abused but Jacob being sent away after the still birth was sad

What a shame the school boy had to go before finishing translating for Barbara but tracking her down to try and help was nice and Sister Julienne having a tough call when the mother refuses medicine for her new-born child because of her faith but the fact the baby was suffering brittle bone decease was tragic as he thought the worst of the parents

Giving the kids sweets to keep them quiet in church was amusing as they were about to sing and had to spit them out again and if that wasn't bad enough they sounded awful, I thought they would have their work cut out making that quire fit for a TV broadcast  and Sister Monica Joan going missing was worrying and the surprise birth was great

The baby born with severe deformities was tragic and you could understand why they didn't want the mother to see her daughter but her will to live was surprising, Trixie beginning teaching keep-fit classes was amusing but the photographs in the paper getting her in trouble was unfortunate

Saying breast milk is best for babies may be OK for some but putting the babies life at risk was unfortunate and you had to feel sorry for the struggling dock worker's wife but being forced into making a difficult decision about her upcoming birth was tough and emotional, Nurse Crane makes a new friend was interesting

I'm not surprised sister Julienne was shocked by the medical advances in use at the local hospital as it had been ten years but the patient care was not what you would expect and Linda falls pregnant just as Ian was accepted into university was bad timing but trying to kill himself while Linda miscarried was tragic

Talk about bad timing to have car trouble and the new trainee talking her through delivering it herself over the phone was impressive but not being able to cope was sad, Fred doing his best running the ladies cloth's shop was amusing and Dr. Turner wanting to set up a new chest clinic was understandable after seeing what smoking does to the lungs

Lizzie being bitten during a violent attack was disturbing and being too ashamed to report because she was a prostitute was sad but a second attack on the mother was sickening, you just knew one of the nun's would be attacked and doubting her faith in God was understandable but at leased she was brave enough to report it

The husband not batting an eyelid about his pregnant standing on a chair painting was disturbing but calling Nurse Crane to assist his wife in a post-natal emergency was surprising and Patsy trying to help the woman travelling on the canal was nice

It's a shame the mother kept her baby covered up but with those deformities you can understand why and I had a felling it was linked to thalidomide, Sister Evangelina passing away suddenly was sad but what a great turn out for her funeral

The small group travelling to South Africa to try and save Hope Clinic was different but Fred helping during delivery out in the bush was amusing and I can't believe the local police made them push the broken-down truck of the road, the kid thinking the polio vaccine would help his brother was tragic and Trixie doing a C-section was impressive

It's nice they started this with them returning from their South Africa adventure but Sister Ursula taking charge and above Sister Julienne isn't going to go down well with Sister Ursula running a tight ship, what a shame the abused wife and son have to put up with that treatment

Sister Ursula reducing their time with a patient to 20 minutes could cause serious problems for some patients and poor Barbara getting the brunt of her wrath after being late but the baby almost dying because of carbon monoxide poisoning was terrible
