Author: codebreaker    Time: 6-19-2012 20:27     Subject: The Newsroom Season 1-3 General Discussion Thread (Spoilers)

The Newsroom Premieres on HBO on June 24, 2012

From the mind of Aaron Sorkin, creator of The West Wing and screenwriter of The Social Network and Moneyball,  comes The Newsroom,  a behind-the-scenes look at the people who make a nightly cable-news program. Focusing on a network anchor (played by Jeff Daniels), his new executive producer (Emily Mortimer), the newsroom staff (John Gallagher, Jr., Alison Pill, Thomas Sadoski, Olivia Munn, Dev Patel) and their boss (Sam Waterston), the series tracks their quixotic mission to do the news well in the face of corporate and commercial obstacles-not to mention their own personal entanglements.

Well this was nice extended pilot and i enjoyed watching it but it got better longer i watched it but you need a lot patience to watch this show as it's same pace as west wing which mean each episode will cover one major news story this one was oil spill which people remember happen few years back.

So it nice to find out at the end she was in audience but he doesn't know which means she is responsible for his breakdown on national TV.

Well another good episode on what to do when your guest cancel and you don't have backup but seeing Grace from secret life was amusing. That fisco with e-mail system was crazy i mean what a way to reveal their secret to all employees in the company .

What a start with the question time and if his statistics are right then how can they say the US is the greatest in the world and I wished Maggie would stick to just one name,  just because the oil rig story was in yellow and it was Jim who brought it to their attention they were so slow to react which was interesting and how ironic it turned red after the news
Author: bala    Time: 7-5-2012 02:49     Subject: Reply 11#11 codebreaker's post

Well because people don't know stats unless they look for it
Author: codebreaker    Time: 7-5-2012 04:55     Subject: 1x02 News Night 2.0

The thought of Maggie hiding under the bed while her boyfriend was making out with his ex was amusing and Mackenzie saying it's a good job you weren't facing the other way after Jim said about getting shot in the ass was funny but the news story being a disaster and how they tried to fix it was interesting
Author: bala    Time: 7-9-2012 09:53     Subject: The 112th Congress

Well this episode contains 6 months of time-line so they is a lot going on but i like how Will rubed his date into mckenzie face and than going say sorry and finds out she been dating a person for 3 months but didn't rub it in will face was rather sweet.
Author: codebreaker    Time: 7-11-2012 06:53     Subject: 1x03 The 112th Congress

The opening editorial comments from Will were great and him having lots of new dates was amusing but Mackenzie's face was priceless, Maggie bringing to their attention the religion of the guy that saved everyone was impressive considering it was important for the bomber
Author: bala    Time: 7-11-2012 06:59     Subject: Reply 17#17 codebreaker's post

Yes Maggie bring that up was important but it shows how good you must be make sure you cover all the facts it makes you wonder about News we listen on tv. How much of it factual and how much is it for ratings ?
Author: codebreaker    Time: 7-11-2012 07:05     Subject: Reply 18#18 bala's post

I would think ratings are slightly more important but being the first to report breaking news is crucial
Author: bala    Time: 7-11-2012 07:23     Subject: Reply 19#19 codebreaker's post

Yeah i imagine so but i would like to know what real news broadcaster think of this show whether it realistic or not ?.
Author: codebreaker    Time: 7-11-2012 07:27     Subject: Reply 20#20 bala's post

The way they relate this to real news headlines does make this more interesting
Author: bala    Time: 7-11-2012 07:32     Subject: Reply 21#21 codebreaker's post

If you living in America but Exxo Oil leak was only one i recognised from the series.
Author: bala    Time: 7-16-2012 06:50     Subject: i ll try to fix you

So another good episode i got feel sorry for Will because all his date had issues but getting wine thrown in his face was rather amusing but the amount of times was ridiculous. What he did with the women gun was rather impressive . I have got to learn that trick because it certainly looks cool.

Fixing him on date with her roomate but her boyfriend ringing her while she speaking to him was so out of line. He really see that guy as a threat. He is happy but she is mad but seriously she certainly more attractive than her.

Mckenzie finding out about the non-compete clause surprised her but than finding out all those news stories about his dating life was from their own network in attempt to fire him was a nice twist.

I had felling Will wouldn't kiss Nina after she talked about her take down column and Maggie ringing Jim while her boyfriend rang Lisa with the distinctive ring tone was amusing and the others having to put up with the big foot debate was cruel and a good call in no reporting she was dead like the other news stations
Author: bala    Time: 7-23-2012 07:50     Subject: Amen

Well i think most of us know what happen in Egypt last year with uprising against the govenment and this episode covered that but when the reporter they hired get capture it was great to see Will pay out his own pocket but what the crew did at the end was nice in reference Rudy situation mentioned earlier

BROKEN NEWS NEWS

... The integrity of journalism must be protected, and in doing so, The Newsroom creator Aaron Sorkin has fired the entire writing staff of his HBO show. Except for his ex-girlfriend Corinne Kinsbury, who writes on the show. She stays. Because Sorkin's art imitates his life, and characters Mackenzie and Will need that spark and tension in this drama about fixing everything that's wrong with America AND hilarious relationship problems! Will paying a therapist for four years not knowing he died two yeas ago and his son had taken over was a crazy waste of money and Maggie was lucky to still had a job after putting LOL on a condolence card by mistake, Sloan catching the Japanese translator miss quoting her was brilliant and going rouge on air I thought was great but sad her source offered to resign until she lied on air to save his job
Author: codebreaker    Time: 8-6-2012 11:18     Subject: 1x07 - 5/1

What the anonymous source said when he contacts Charlie was incredible considering he was spot on but trying to pre-empt what the president was going to say interesting great and those on the plane must of been frustrated not being able to talk but Will doing a runner from his body guard was amusing

I think we all knew what the news story was going to be but jim saying i love you when he doesn't mean it certainly put light on the serious story. Yes Will getting high without realise that major news story was going to breaK was amusing.

With the title like that you knew how the episode will end but it was interesting way when mackenzie asked for sign from god  she really wasn't expect that but she seemed happy about it but weather news was amusing since they knew they could be a blackout

What a shame the power came on just after Mackenzie great speech but was that another act of God that turned it off in the first place and poor woman trying on dresses while Maggie and Jim was trying to get the story from her old room-mate

Well what a season finale i honestly don't know where to start so he get admitted to hospital because stress he has experience over past 1 year where he want give up but the nurse give him a story about voter registration off he goes. The sex and city reference was rather amusing consider what happen to her with the bus i had a feeling he was on the bus   .

It's a good job Will's security guy knew about the pills he was taking before he collapsed but Mackenzie attacking him in hospital was amusing and the heads up about Will being high on air was interesting considering it was from a hacked phone

The lengths Maggie went to in order to try and get the you-tube video taken down was impressive but you just knew she wouldn't take it down so being un-friended by her room-mate after she seen it was expected, Will going to bail out Neal when he was arrested was interesting
Author: bala    Time: 7-23-2013 05:48     Subject: Reply 74#74 codebreaker's post

Yes the length she went through was impressive but her friend was right she did ask her whether she was interested in him and she lied but she reep what she done. I am really surprised she didn't slap her . Neal really bitten off more than he can chew with the protesters good thing he uploaded the video as evidence to news server .

Well the fact Will and Nina are hooking up will make mckenzie mad but the fact Nina know what phone message was risky but lie when asked was surprised until we saw where she was . Getting kick off the bus because they would stick to right question was amusing. . They finally got confirmation via twitter about the attack was just plain crazy.

You have to feel sorry for Jim when his questions continued to fall on deaf ears and all because it was a free tour bus and the other reporters were scared to ask the awkward questions
Author: bala    Time: 8-6-2013 08:25     Subject: Unintended Consequences

After Will blasted her on national tv it had an Unintended Consequences as she has information big story they found and needed her contact but all those people trying to apologise to her were amusing as everyone of them couldn't help but insult her.

Wow the kids reaction when the cameras followed Maggie into the class room in Africa was sad and Daniel hiding under the bed was understandable but at the cost of the cameraman's life was tragic, Jim getting a kiss from his arch rival was nice but I thought he would make the first move
Author: codebreaker    Time: 8-13-2013 06:04     Subject: 2x05 News Night With Will McAvoy

I'm not surprised Will was distracted during a telecast considering his dad died only minutes before and poor Sloan being humiliated but using her rage to deck the guy was priceless

Yes but he was at least he was professional about it which was great but Mckenzie trying protect him was getting rather annoying with Neil telling him about a women he ignored which is rather stupid that a women would go on twitter and have a go at someone because he didn't recognise her. What is this world coming to when people expect that if your famous you should know everyone and act like everyone is important. People have various life problem it's hard to be considerate all the time.

Sorry rant over but this whole twitter thing really annoys me when you take pot shot at people just because you had a bad day.

Slone i felt bad because she really didn't deserve that but that was a good punch.

Of all the things that happen in season finale,  the proposal has to be the most unexpected , which is great because you never imagined he would ask nor would you expected her to say Yes was a surprise, you would think they could of used that as cliffhanger for next season?. I suppose i like the fact everything got resolved so the extent that next season would be another news story.

A lot of stuff happens in this episode and i really enjoy chatting various storyline. Lets start Neal obviously he would need lawyer but the whole situation was about whether or not use the information for broadcast and if they didn't Neal would be safe nothing would happen but Will protecting Neal was great.

Irresponsible tweet should be a lesson to those people who think social media is just for fun that tweet was really bad and it took her an hour to realise it but Charlie had no choice but to fire her.

The train situation which leads ethics discussion as whether Maggie did the right thing or not and in my mind she did she choose not to do it until he gave her permission.

Sloane finding out her boyfriend used her insider information to make money was interesting as lead to relationship conversation which was so amusing to watch and the way they both tried get out of conversation was so great it made unmissable situation with Slone admitted she likes having sex with him.
