Star Trek: the Next Generation Aired From September 28, 1987 – May 23, 1994

the premise:
"Space: the final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise. Its continuing mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no one has gone before." The show follows the adventures of a space-faring crew on board the Starship USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-D), the fifth Federation vessel to bear the name. It takes place roughly 70 years after the “five-year mission” of the original Enterprise crew under the command of James T. Kirk.
