About the Show:
Charlie Harris (Michael Shanks), the charismatic Chief of Surgery of Toronto’s Hope-Zion Hospital ends up in a coma, leaving the hospital in chaos – and his fiancée and fellow surgeon, Alex Reid (Erica Durance), in a state of shock. Along with newly-arrived star surgeon, Joel Goran (Daniel Gillies), Alex races to save Harris' life. As the action unfolds, comatose Dr. Harris explores the hospital halls in “ spirit” form, not sure if he's a ghost or a figment of his own imagination. Reid, along with her fellow doctors, press on to save his life and those of their other patients, as they deal with the complicated and courageous decisions that are made in their daily struggle to keep hope alive.

Season 1



Episode 1: Pilot (Jun/07/2012)
In the premiere episode, the Chief of Surgery ends up in a coma, and his fiancée and fellow surgeons fight to save his life.

Episode 2: Contact (Jun/14/2012)
Alex Reid treats a young boy with mysterious symptoms while dealing with the arrival of Charlie's ex-wife. Elsewhere in the hospital, Joel Goran and Maggie Lin try to help a patient who refuses life-saving treatment on religious grounds.

Episode 3: Blindness (Jun/21/2012)
After Charlie's (Shanks) hand moved in the last episode, Alex (Durance) has high hopes for his recovery, while she treats a patient who already has multiple surgeries under his belt. Meanwhile, Charlie coaches a young man killed in a roofing accident who has unfinished business with his severely injured brother.

Episode 4: The Fight (Jun/28/2012)
A sleep-deprived Alex takes on a night shift in the ER where an all-star hockey enforcer may be skating full-speed towards an early death. Meanwhile, Charlie meets a suburban punk who is facing the biggest fight of his life.

Episode 5: Out Of Sight (Jul/05/2012)
A high profile double hand replantation becomes Alex's (Durance) chance to prove to Kinney (Wendy Crewson) that she is still capable of being Chief Surgical Resident. In the ICU, Maggie (Ross) believes a homeless man may have been misdiagnosed.

Episode 6: The Great Randall (Jul/12/2012)
When a severely injured man under the spell of hypnosis can't remember his identity, the hypnotist who put him under is called into the hospital - where he uses his psychic ability to connect Charlie and Alex.

Episode 7: Consenting Adults (Jul/19/2012)
A routine surgical procedure goes awry when Alex's patient, a soon-to-be-wed young woman, falls into a coma. While Alex struggles with a case that hits close to home, Joel treats a patient who does his own body modifications, and Charlie finds himself drawn to Alex's coma patient in the spirit world.

Episode 8: Heartsickness (Jul/26/2012)
With Charlie's life hanging in the balance, Alex and Dawn go head-to-head over who gets to be his legal decision maker - but are forced to put personal matters aside when they scrub into a heart transplant surgery together. Charlie, meanwhile, is in no mood to talk to the heart donor - a deceased prisoner.

Episode 9: Bea, Again (Aug/16/2012)
Charlie’s ex-wife, Dawn, has pulled the plug on his ventilator. All that’s left now is to wait for his breathing to stop. Devastated, Alex vows to stay by Charlie’s side. Meanwhile, Charlie – resisting his death – bumps into Mack MacIlreath, a recently deceased colleague, who has come to help Charlie die. Alex decides to lawyer up and appeal to the Consent & Capacity Board. While the process gets started, Alex is pulled away to meet with a patient: a young woman named Bea, who Alex performed surgery on while working as a first year surgical resident under Dr. Charles Harris. Bea’s check-up is all clear, but Mack and Charlie fear that she was misdiagnosed. And if Alex doesn’t catch it before Bea walks out of the hospital, she could die. Elsewhere, Joel’s hand is broken and he cannot operate until it is fully healed. Stuck with doing consults, he takes the case of a choir singer who makes a “miraculous” recovery from her paralysis.

Episode 10: A New Beginning (Aug/23/2012)
Fear and doubt strike Joel in the OR, so Kinney takes him on a therapeutic field trip to her hometown, where they end up trying to rescue a woman who's pinned under a truck. Elsewhere, Charlie connects with a newly deceased therapist; and Alex cares for a fitness buff with a rare condition.

Episode 11: The Law of Contagion (Aug/30/2012)
A sick airline passenger is rushed to the hospital. As Alex performs emergency surgery on the passenger, she begins to realize the patient may be infected with a deadly and contagious virus.

Episode 12: Ride Hard or Go Home (Sep/06/2012)
Alex and Shahir bring Charlie to the O.R. for a last resort procedure, but Charlie must first face his past before he can wake up. Meanwhile, Joel performs a risky surgery on a female jockey and Gavin crosses the line when he meets an Alzheimer’s patient.

Episode 13: Pink Clouds (Sep/13/2012)
After a major turn of events, Alex is faced with a monumental question: is her life now changed forever? Meanwhile, Joel is in a race against time to save a young patient from rapidly advancing flesh-eating disease.

Season 2



Episode 1: I Watch Death (Jun/25/2013)
On the way back to Hope Zion, Alex and Charlie get caught up in the aftermath of a shooting.

Episode 2: Little Piggies (Jul/02/2013)
Alex must learn to stick up for herself and not be intimidated by Dawn (Charlie’s ex-wife) in order to work alongside her and perform a minimally invasive heart procedure to save a patient’s life. Meanwhile, Joel unlocks a mystery to a young girl’s disease, while getting some advice from Charlie, who is trying to figure out how to help his comatose patient come back from being a spirit. It’s a week of defying the odds at Hope Zion Hospital.

Episode 3: Why Waste Time (Jul/09/2013)
Alex is trying to get her life back to normal with Charlie and at Hope Zion Hospital, but with Charlie’s head in the clouds and the pressure to find her medical niche she’s struggling. Inspiration comes in the form of an immigrant doctor who needs Alex to save his wife’s life, and in return, helps her find her calling.

Episode 4: Defense (Jul/16/2013)
The doctors at Hope Zion Hospital are forced to deal with people from their past as Alex, Charlie, and Joel take on the daunting task of operating on a malpractice lawyer known for suing every doctor in his path. Meanwhile, Zach is tested when the last person he wants to treat comes into his E.R. and a Season 1 patient returns with some difficult insight for Charlie and Alex.

Episode 5: The Face of the Giant Panda (Jul/23/2013)
Alex must become the unlikely advocate for a violent young prisoner brought in to Hope Zion Hospital, while Joel connects with a disfigured refugee and tries to convince Dr. Dana Kinney to come back to operate on him. Meanwhile, a spirit who is familiar to many Hope Zion doctors shows up in the morgue when Charlie is about to do routine procedure.

Episode 6: All Things Must Pass (Jul/30/2013)
After a young, healthy, and hunky fireman dies suddenly at Hope Zion Hospital, Alex must take the stand at Hope Zion's Morbidity and Mortality (M&M) Rounds to find out what went wrong and who is to blame. Meanwhile, Charlie deals with a nervous aspiring Nun, and Joel has to decide if he can be the man that comes through for Sonja.

Episode 7: Bed One (Aug/06/2013)
When a heat wave hits the city, Alex is appointed Trauma Team Leader as the hospital is faced with an influx of patients during a blackout. With no back-up power available, Dawn and Charlie must figure out a way to continue their surgery as Joel and Maggie attempt to keep a patient alive while stuck in an elevator.

Episode 8: Defriender (Aug/13/2013)
When Alex and Joel end up stranded in the middle of nowhere with a severely injured couple, they’re forced to use only what’s around them to stabilize the pair until paramedics arrive. Meanwhile, back at Hope Zion Hospital, Charlie must try to save the wounded leg of his former college roommate as Gavin attempts to help Shahir improve his bedside manner.

Episode 9: Vamonos (Aug/20/2013)
When Alex is forced to put a patient’s gender reassignment surgery on hold, she discovers a secret in his medical history that could save his surgery, but tear his life apart. Charlie deals with a patient who is healthy, sane – and convinced she is going to die at midnight. Meanwhile, Joel secretly helps Sonja (guest star Erin Karpluk) deal with a patient of hers who’s been admitted to Hope Zion Hospital.

Episode 10: Wishbones (Jan/02/2014)
When Alex's brother is admitted to Hope Zion in critical condition, Joel and Charlie must work together to keep him alive while keeping his admittance a secret from Alex.

Episode 11: En Bloc (Jan/09/2014)
Alex risks a dangerous surgery on a seemingly inoperable tumour to save a young boy's life. Meanwhile, Charlie struggles with the spirit of Alex's dead brother, Luke.

Episode 12: Nottingham 7 (Jan/16/2014)
With one of the Hope Zion doctors’ life at risk, Alex must put her personal and professional reservations aside in order to perform a surgery that could save their life.

Episode 13: Wide Awake (Jan/23/2014)
Alex is surprised twice in one night – first when she realizes she's been tricked into a blind double date, and again when she has to rush her mystery man to the ER.

Episode 14: 43 Minutes (Jan/30/2014)
Alex witnesses a horrific accident on her way home from work and must return to the hospital to help the victims. Elsewhere, Charlie and Gavin attend a therapy session.

Episode 15: Don't Poke the Bear (Feb/06/2014)
A couple is attacked by a bear, but Alex and Charlie think there's more to the story.

Episode 16: Breathless (Feb/13/2014)
Charlie reaches a breaking point with a Spirit who won't leave him alone and Alex races against the clock to find an organ donor for a patient.

Episode 17: Twinned Lambs (Feb/20/2014)
Charlie and Joel are pitted against one another by their patients. Complications occur during one of Dr. Kalfas' surgeries and Maggie finds herself stepping in even though she was only meant to be shadowing her mentor. Alex helps a patient out who in her old age believes she's living in a different era.

Episode 18: Broken Hearts (Feb/27/2014)
Alex is diagnosed with an irregular heartbeat, while Charlie deals with the aftermath of the fight.

A car accident brings a mother to the hospital and Alex (Erica Durance) discovers her son is very adamant that he be involved in the surgery.

Episode 6: Joel 2:31 (Oct/23/2014)
A 'blood moon' gives the ER its busiest night of the year and also delivers a medical mystery for Alex (Erica Durance) to solve.

Episode 7: The Way We Were (Nov/26/2014)
Dr. Shahir Hamza and Dr. Alex Reid try to save the memory of a young woman suffering from Alzheimer's with a radical surgery.
